Have started a new art piece for a beautiful young family living in Brisbane.  It’s to be a vibrant & imaginative figurative painting on 1.2 x 2m timber board.

Inspiration for the project.

Although I was originally thinking to do it on canvas, as per the norm, the framework of large canvas paintings often have the tendency to twist & bow over time.

So have decided to try a new technique… well a new technique to me anyways! I have recently met an amazing artist, Gareth Deakin, who constructs & paints his larger paintings on timber boards, all of which are all extremely solid & structurally sound.

Thinking this would be an ideal substrate for my new project, I approached him to see if he would show me how it’s done.  Wonderfully he agreed!

Sanding & prepping the board.

Notching out the fretwork frame.

Timber fretwork.

Weighting the board to set the glue!

It's to sit for a min. of 24hours, then we'll lift the weights, ensure framwork is set & straight, tack the corners as required and it's ready to start painting. My strategy is in place, I can't wait to start!
